i wasn't, but it turns out i should've been... :)

thanks-- should've remembered that from earlier posts i think. is xen.org 
generally the best place for docs on this basic process stuff, or is there a 
canonical dummies guide online anywhere?

fwiw the output from that shows that indeed, it's dying because it's missing a 
block device (one of many). i'll have a poke at the .xl file...
