would it be possible to encapsulate by just opening a different module (or even 
namespace if that's a thing yet), e.g. via a config/command line option?  or 
are there cases where we might want to mix V1 and V2?  (can't immediately think 
of any; guess they might be dealt with by making things explicit anyway, ie., 
V1.console @-> V2.network @-> V2.job or somesuch?!)
