One epic hack that is a non-native container is Joyent's Linux-ABI-in-Illumos, which uses runs Docker Linux containers natively in Illumos: https://www.joyent.com/blog/2014-in-review-docker-rising It's possible to do, appears to be used in production, but is clearly very complex.
