Re: [Wg-test-framework] [Advisory-board] Minutes from Xen Project Test Framework WG in September

Lars,

Here is our proposal for AMD systems in a suggested priority order:

1. HP: 2U, 2P, G34, [6300/6200] (DL385p Gen8) [in agreement with Konrad’s suggestion]

  - [Piledriver/Bulldozer]

- Choose Bulldozer or Piledriver based on decisions of other choices in the list so both are represented

- http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/proliant-servers/product-detail.html?oid=5249584

2. DELL: 2U, 2P, C32, 4386 (PowerEdge R515 2U)

- Piledriver but a different socket than the HP

- http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/poweredge-r515/pd

3. supermicro: 1U, G34, 6300, (A+ server 1022GG-TF) [in agreement with Konrad’s suggestion]

- Piledriver

4. colfax: 1U, 2P, G34, 6300 (Colfax CX1250-N4 1U)

- Piledriver

5. tyan: 2U, 2P, G34, [6200] (TYAN GN70B8236-IL (B8236G70W8HR-HE-IL))

- Bulldozer

Hi Lars,

I was at the meeting too. Sorry I didn't said during the meeting.

== Contracts ==

Lars: explained the current situation with EarthLink pushing us to sign the COLO contract using time and COLO space to pressure us. I bought us some extra time by explaining the situation with All Net to them. They gave us some extra time (until next week) and offered to not charge us until we start using the cabinet space. The EarthLink contract has been reviewed by Mike Woster from the Linux Foundation and is ready to be signed.

However, we have not seen AllNet Terms & Conditions. I asked AllNet to break up their proposal into two parts: the hardware list (which is essentially just a purchase order) and a maintenance contract, whose T&Ds then need to be reviewed by Mike Woster. We should get this by this Friday.

My proposal would be that if

a) we get the AllNet maintenance contract this week and

b) Mike is happy with the T&D’s that we then sign both.

The rationale is that we then know we have a maintenance company as well as a COLO that we can use. This would break the dependency related to the Hardware list and would allow us to move forward.

{{Motion}} Do we all agree with this approach?

Yes

The goal would be to get both the Maintenance contract with Allnet and the COLO contract signed next week. But we do need to get the HW list closed quickly too

== Hardware Lists ==

Lars asked what the status of the HW list is

Aravind: Sherry is working on it with AMD marketing, and hopefully we will get it by the Advisory Board meeting at the latest

Lars asked what AMD’s expectation is in terms of share of machines is

Aravind: Ideally 50/50 as stated on the list, if possible

Lars: must have missed this on the list. My proposal would be to wait for AMD’s proposal and then look at cost and to

Don Slutz: wanted get some clarity on Ian’s remark of pairing machines, which essentially would bring us to 12 pairs of identical machines rather than 24 separate machines

Don D Dugger agrees with Ian Jackson’s point made in http://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/wg-test-framework/2014-09/msg00004.html

Lars does too: the consequence is that we need to revisit the HW list as it currently does not do the pairing

ACTION: As Ian Jackson has been driving the creation of the HW list and should start to work with George and the WG directly
