Ok, but the patch (series) as it stands is still an improvement, right?

It is, but I have an improvement in the pipeline that would be cleaner as a
replacement series rather than a later fix.
I'd prefer to have the later series applied rather than adding another,
somewhat messy patch that reworks the 2nd patch.
