Hi list,

Recently I had some major issues importing guests from VMware into XCP
via XenCenter and found very little support on the subject (I even
posted to xen-users and got no replies)
I finally discovered that XCP 1.1 is missing the TransferVM package,
after pulling it off the Citrix XenCenter ISO and installing it on my
XCP server everything now runs smoothly.

So I'm now wondering, why is the TransferVM not included with XCP 1.1
and will it be included in XCP 1.5 ?

To be honest, I'm not sure what was the original reason for excluding the TransferVM from the first release of XCP. I think that it may have been excluded just to keep the iso size down, but perhaps it wasn't open source at the time.

Regardless, it's open source now, and it's pretty useful to have on an XCP system. I've filed a bug against XCP 1.1 for this issue, and we should include it in XCP 1.5.

Mike

Thanks Mike, it's good to know the package is open source and we aren't breaking any rules by installing it manually on XCP.
For the record, the transfer-vm rpm is 3.64 MB so it should be a breeze to include on the iso without bloating.
Until then, I have added a little entry on importing it into XCP at http://new-wiki.xen.org/wiki/XenCenterXCP
