[Xen-ia64-devel] Dan Magenheimer leaving HP, and MagiXen tech report

Hello Xen-ia64 friends and colleagues --

After 25 years at Hewlett-Packard, I took an early retirement
package and my last day at HP will be May 31.  Although I
haven't been active in xen-ia64 for over a year, working with
all of you on Xen was certainly one of the highlights of my
career and I'm proud of how you have all contributed to turn
a limited prototype into a fully-functional product!

Over the last year, I've worked on a few virtualization-related
projects that are still HP confidential, but one project that
is now published might be of interest to some of you...

Last year, there was a brief exchange on xen-ia64-devel asking
if it was possible to run xen-ia32 virtual machines on xen-ia64.
The answer was of course "No", but several people were intrigued
by the idea.  Some of us in HP Labs decided to develop the idea,
implemented a prototype called MagiXen (pronounced "magician"),
and submitted a paper for Usenix 2007. Sadly, we ran out of time
and although it worked, the initial performance results did not
look particularly good and the paper was rejected. So we have
instead published the paper as an HP Labs Tech Report that can
be found here:

As for me, I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, but will
start by taking some vacation time. I am no longer subscribed
to xen-ia64-devel (or any Xen mailing lists) and replies to my
