syslinux and its derivatives didn't used to support the multiboot
standard (which xen requires - unless you use mbootpack), until we wrote
the support for it and submitted it upstream.

grub has always supported multiboot, and the iso support normally works
fine on most machines. Also, the grub command line is rather more
flexible and people are generally more familiar with using grub.
