When I recompile the Xen kernel I use make ARCH=xen menuconfig and then
make KERNELS="linux-2.6-xen0 linux-2.6-xenU" kernels to recompile. I
then link the xen0 kernel to /usr/src/linux (as that is where the
manufacturers make looks.

After rebooting into the xen0 kernel I run just a 'make' on Promises
drivers and copy the ulsata2.ko into the
/lib/modules/2.6.12-xen0/kernel/drivers/scsi and run a depmod -a on
2.6.12-xen0

This is how promises readme says to do it.
Should I be trying to compile their drivers with 'make ARCH=xen'?

Thanks
John

Don't know what command line you are using (and I have never compiled
this
driver), but are you including "ARCH=xen".
