It works for me. domU is Linux 2.6.12.6 / Gentoo 1.6.13, snmpd is 5.2.1.2, tested from two other physical machines on the same network, a Debian/Linux and a NetBSD, both work or from another domU on the same machine (Ubuntu/Linux), works too.
