Why is the limit set to 3 > actually? Not that I would know of. The problem is: the struct required for a virtual NIC is so big that only three instances fit into one page of memory. And extending the Xen interface to support more then one page of memory seams to require major surgery. In 3.0.0 days there were some attempts to write a patch, but that never worked out.
