I'm using the 2342 HBAs.  No I haven't found any answers to the problem 
although I believe it is specific to the SuSE XEN kernel.  I made a test 
install using xen sources and did not have the problem.  Unfortunately to be 
able to use the Yast features for xen the suse install is required.

Since I installed the hba after the initial installation I am considering a 
fresh install with the hba in the machine and connected to the san.  However 
I have my doubts about the doing anything different.
