Currently, the Xen tools do not do the same amount of setup for HVM
domains, which means that more complex disk types (blktap, dmu, nbd,
etc) will not work.

However, if you start the cowd daemon ahead of time and point your
domain's disk at the target device (/dev/mapper/something), then it
should work.

Note that qemu-dm should be able to use qcow files like qemu does, so
that may be the best option for you, if you're mostly interested in
HVM domains.
