I've been trying, without much luck, to run FreeBSD in a xen-unstable guest HVM. I have, however, had success in getting Windows XP and even Debian to install and run with a similar configuration. I've even gone so far as to boot the physical machine from the FreeBSD installation CD, install it to a real drive, boot back into the Xen0 and then attempt to export that FreeBSD physical block device to the HVM with the same results: An ever-repeating display of register information followed by a "BTX Halted" message: int=0000000d err=00000000 efl=00010046 eip=000090db eax=00050033 ebx=00002820 ecx=00000000 edx=0000a000 esi=00009701 edi=00051f98 ebp=00007bea esp=00001800 cs=0008 ds=0000 es=0000 fs=0000 gs=0000 ss=0010 cs:eip=0f 01 15 d0 96 00 00 66-ea e8 90 18 00 b1 20 8e d1 8e d9 8e c1 8e e1 8e-e9 48 0f 22 c0 ea fd 90 ss:esp=0a 69 6e 74 3d 30 30 30-30 30 30 30 64 20 20 65 72 72 3d 30 30 30 30 30-30 30 30 20 20 65 66 6c BTX halted The hardware is a Supermicro server motherboard with two dual core Xeon 5140's (2.33GHz). I've found a bug report that was submitted back in mid April ( http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=622 ) which describes the same problem. It was updated in mid August by someone else who was having the same problem, and it's still an open "NEW" bug. I have a specific need to run FreeBSD, but I don't want to have to dedicate an entire server to it. It would be ideal to run it as a virtual machine but it seems like there's just no way to do it without going back a few versions where paravirtualized FreeBSD was working. That brings me to these two questions: 1. Has anyone actually been able to make a recent version of FreeBSD run as a domU in any capacity on Xen 3.0.2 or unstable? 2. Has there been any progress toward making the Xen 3.x paravirtualized x86_64 FreeBSD? -- Scott Garron _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
