For me ...
tap 0 is created by tun...
Every virtual network created by xen have  his  equivalent in tap0 that 's why i'ved many tap....

hmm, sorry, I've been a bit away from Xen for a while and I din't
think hard enough before replying.

I just checked again and realized that, yes, when starting a hvm
domain, there seems to be a tap0 device being created.

I cannot tell you exactly what it is good for, but I remeber from
times when I used qemu more often, that these devices have something
to do with the way qemu emulates network devices. And this part of
qemu is also used in xen to create emulated net devices for xen hvm
domains.
