I'm not sure if you solved this problem, but I received the same error. It
turned out that I had an extra comma (,) in my "disk = ['file:......,rw']"
line.

Just mentioning it for posterity since I wasted several hours trying to
figure out that "invalid mode" meant silly typo in my case.
