Ah that's my problem.

I installed Debian 3.1 from CD but it never asked if I wanted to install
in 64bit?

If you build it on a 64bits OS, then it will compile for a 64bits
environment.

You can force it by using the XEN_TARGET_ARCH macro (see Config.mk)
