Hi there

does any one know, or is there any information about which linux
kernels build cleanly and work with Xen 3.1.0 ?

Limited Xen support was merged in 2.6.23 [1]

For current status of this support, which is made possible with paravirt_ops, see this presentation  from Jeremy Fitzhardinge that he presented at the November Xen summit [3]

I would like to move beyond 2.6.18 series because of bugs in some
drives/modules I need.

Don't be surprised if you run up against different problems when using the later sources. Please report the bugs you find to the appropriate developers/lists/etc.

Also, You may want to take a look at the current distro support. Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. patch their own kernels to support Xen.

Todd

many thanks
