fyi; I started off with lots of hangs too .. however pretty much all of these 
have now been traced back to Xen and fixed.
(this is with Gluster)

I tried in the past with a couple of fedora machines using the redhat's GFS

there was a considerable "scripting" part required to get a good 
monitoring of the machines status and to perform recovers actions ... 
but when done that was ok, the problem was for us in the reliability of 
the FS itself which may be the cause of hangs
