For example if you want to make a modification to the unstable source do:

hg clone http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-unstable.hg
hg clone http://xenbits.xensource.com/linux-2.6.18-xen.hg

<make your modifications>

cd xen-unstable.hg
make world
