I was able to use linux-image-2.6-686-bigmem (the one with pv_ops) as PV domU on RHEL 5.3 x86_64 dom0. You might want to try that kernel instead. Somethings might differ (like the console is on hvc0, and the disks will be xvda instead of hda), but it works.
