Why don't you try it and share the results?
My guess is :
- performance will be somewhat similar
- new features (like stubdom) will be available in the opensource
version first before they appear on XenServer.

Personally I like the opensource version because it integrates with
the distro that I'm familiar with, so it will be like "some
application or package to install" instead of "some new operating
system to learn".
