Perhaps it's the blog you tried to follow?

I highly suggest you use RHEL/Centos5 for dom0 OS if you want to
experiment with Xen. Less problems, well-tested system, and
prebuilt-packages available for newer versions of Xen from
http://www.gitco.de/repo/
