I've tried disabling these options in the BIOS with no effect: NUMA exec protection hyperthreading all non-essential PCI cards APIC
I did just discover that one can dump state from the Xen console which appears to be fully functional even though there is no sign of life from the dom0.

This same xen boots fine with Andrew Lyon's 2.6.30.3 kernel patches, but hangs with the 2.6.31 pvops kernel.
This is a proliant with 2 nahelem CPUs.
One thing of note is that even thought console output stops, I can still toggle between the Xen and dom0 console with the 3 ctrl-a sequence. I cannot ping it though so I'm pretty sure it's not a console setting.
