What does kvm buy you? Does it have a working cow backing store?
KVM supports Qcow2 natively. It may be possible to use Qcow2 with a Xen HVM DomU but I've never tried it. Qcow is a part of Qemu and Xen HVM uses a version of Qemu. KVM practically IS QEMU with acceleration.
