Yes, i guess
/boot should mounted on /dev/xvda1 (primary).
When building Unumtu 9.10 DomU from scratch it shouldn't be a problem
to make "pygrub" happy.

I didn't follow this thread and might miss something. Take /boot out of LVM.

No. /boot is not in LVM. It's in an extended partition but it is a regular /dev/xvda5 Linux partition holding the /boot filesystem. It seems the only problem is that pygrub cannot read extended partitions.
