Hello, I just upgraded from Xen-3.3.1 to Xen-4.0.0. System is Gentoo, Hardware is DualCore AMD Athlon, 8GB RAM. The kernel was upgraded from OpenSUSE 2.6.27.29-0.1.1 to Gentoo-2.6.32-xen- r1. The first boot failed with an OOM error during kernel/initrd load, so I adjusted the dom0_mem option and had to increase it's avalue from 256M to at least 400M until the dom0 could boot. At all the system currently runs with dom0_mem=512M, which is not a big problem, but the dom0 only gets around 256MB, at least free displays Mem: 262248 169548 92700 0 8844 18008 I know the hypervisor consumes some memory but I don't think it requires such a lot. Also I don't think it should use dom0's memory? So, where's the memory lost/consumed? Is there any possibility to investigate all memory consumptions? Thanks & Regards Peter Klar ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 262248 170164 92084 0 8868 18064 -/+ buffers/cache: 143232 119016 Swap: 720888 38436 682452 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # cat /boot/grub/menu.lst serial --unit=0 --speed=115200 --word=8 --parity=no --stop=1 terminal --timeout=60 serial console default 0 timeout 60 title Gentoo Linux XEN root(hd0,1) kernel /boot/xen.gz dom0_mem=512M module /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.32-xen-r1-mcclure vga=791 root=/dev/ram0 domdadm dodmraid dolvm crypt_root=/dev/vgchaos/rootfs-mcclure real_root=/dev/mapper/root console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8 module /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.32-xen-r1-mcclure ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # xm list Name ID Mem VCPUs State Time(s) Domain-0 0 255 2 r----- 421.1 blake 2 512 1 -b---- 128.6 greek 1 256 1 -b---- 30.8 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # xm info host : mcclure release : 2.6.32-xen-r1-mcclure version : #1 SMP Mon May 10 22:13:55 CEST 2010 machine : x86_64 nr_cpus : 2 nr_nodes : 1 cores_per_socket : 2 threads_per_core : 1 cpu_mhz : 2494 hw_caps : 178bf3ff:ebd3fbff:00000000:00000010:00002001:00000000:0000011f:00000000 virt_caps : hvm total_memory : 8140 free_memory : 7038 node_to_cpu : node0:0-1 node_to_memory : node0:7038 node_to_dma32_mem : node0:3515 max_node_id : 0 xen_major : 4 xen_minor : 0 xen_extra : .0 xen_caps : xen-3.0-x86_64 xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64 xen_scheduler : credit xen_pagesize : 4096 platform_params : virt_start=0xffff800000000000 xen_changeset : unavailable xen_commandline : dom0_mem=512M cc_compiler : gcc version 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.3) cc_compile_by : cc_compile_domain : priv.chaos cc_compile_date : Mon May 10 23:18:53 CEST 2010 xend_config_format : 4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- # xm dmesg __ __ _ _ ___ ___ \ \/ /___ _ __ | || | / _ \ / _ \ \ // _ \ '_ \ | || |_| | | | | | | / \ __/ | | | |__ _| |_| | |_| | /_/\_\___|_| |_| |_|(_)___(_)___/ (XEN) Xen version 4.0.0 (@priv.chaos) (gcc version 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.3)) Mon May 10 23:18:53 CEST 2010 (XEN) Latest ChangeSet: unavailable (XEN) Command line: dom0_mem=512M (XEN) Video information: (XEN) VGA is text mode 80x25, font 8x16 (XEN) VBE/DDC methods: V2; EDID transfer time: 1 seconds (XEN) EDID info not retrieved because of reasons unknown (XEN) Disc information: (XEN) Found 5 MBR signatures (XEN) Found 5 EDD information structures (XEN) Xen-e820 RAM map: (XEN) 0000000000000000 - 000000000009fc00 (usable) (XEN) 000000000009fc00 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) (XEN) 00000000000e6000 - 0000000000100000 (reserved) (XEN) 0000000000100000 - 00000000dfeb0000 (usable) (XEN) 00000000dfeb0000 - 00000000dfec0000 (ACPI data) (XEN) 00000000dfec0000 - 00000000dfef0000 (ACPI NVS) (XEN) 00000000dfef0000 - 00000000dff00000 (reserved) (XEN) 00000000fff00000 - 0000000100000000 (reserved) (XEN) 0000000100000000 - 000000021e000000 (usable) (XEN) ACPI: RSDP 000FA160, 0014 (r0 ACPIAM) (XEN) ACPI: RSDT DFEB0000, 003C (r1 080108 RSDT2148 20080801 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: FACP DFEB0200, 0084 (r2 A M I OEMFACP 12000601 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: DSDT DFEB0440, 7737 (r1 AS146 AS146012 12 INTL 20051117) (XEN) ACPI: FACS DFEC0000, 0040 (XEN) ACPI: APIC DFEB0390, 006C (r1 080108 APIC2148 20080801 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: MCFG DFEB0400, 003C (r1 080108 OEMMCFG 20080801 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: OEMB DFEC0040, 0071 (r1 080108 OEMB2148 20080801 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: HPET DFEB7B80, 0038 (r1 080108 OEMHPET 20080801 MSFT 97) (XEN) ACPI: SSDT DFEB7BC0, 028A (r1 A M I POWERNOW 1 AMD 1) (XEN) System RAM: 8140MB (8335424kB) (XEN) Domain heap initialised (XEN) Processor #0 15:11 APIC version 16 (XEN) Processor #1 15:11 APIC version 16 (XEN) IOAPIC[0]: apic_id 2, version 33, address 0xfec00000, GSI 0-23 (XEN) Enabling APIC mode: Flat.
