I installed libvirt via the xen-server pattern in YAST software manager and now I can connect to the VM with no GLX error.

I got a bit further... following your blog posting... but wiht a couple
of expections... now stuck with GLX error... but I think I'm almost there!
Trying to see if the package lineup matches the blog output I have:
linux-z7hf:/usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64 # rpm -qa|grep xen|grep -v kernel xen-doc-pdf-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64 xen-doc-html-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64 xen-tools-domU-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64 xen-libs-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64 xen-devel-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64 xen-kmp-default-4.0.0_21091_05_k2.6.34.0_12-6.7.x86_64 xen-kmp-desktop-4.0.0_21091_05_k2.6.34.0_12-6.7.x86_64 xen-4.0.0_21091_05-6.7.x86_64
I then had to remove domU tools package as it conflicted with the xen-tools-* package. I then reinstall all RPMs, excluding this one. Then install xen-tools package. Started xend and VirtManager
could then connect to localhost.
This seemed slightly different to what the blog states. After rebooting into the kotd xen kernel I could see XEN was more functional than before!

Then I tried creating a new machine gives popup:

show_create File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/vminstall/gtk/interface.py", line 143, in __init__ RuntimeError: could not create GladeXML object
I get the same error if I use xm create, then use VirtManager to "open" its console.
Using config file "./winxp.hvm". Started domain WinXPHVM (id=2)
I also get this error with vif set to xenbr0...
Error: Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Could not find bridge device xenbr0
Indeed, no xenbr0 exists on the system.
I added network-script bridge to the xend-config.sxp file and YAST now complains it can't administer networking because bridge exists. I see peth0 has appeared, but xenbr0 is not visible in ifconfig.
Now I can create the VM using xm create and it seems happy with vif using xenbr0.
So maybe nearer? Just now can't connect to the HVM without seeing GLX error.

I got HVM Ubuntu installed via an ISO image, once, a while back under Centos using a newish Virtual Manager wizard. I dont believe its got a PV version of Ubuntu running in it although I realise this is available, I also have a WinXP HVM which I would like running. Hence hte HVM question... and whether
this is still
an issue even once I get XEN working on my setup?
I was not aware I'd installed KVM at all. I installed opensuse from DVD and then later installed Virtualisation Tools from YAST panel.
I am presently downloading the stuff you've posted on your blog posting to try and walk through those steps. I'm slowly getting more confused as to where I should go and what starting point I should begin from ;o)

I undertook this steps just to patch Xen 4.0 on Suse 11.3. It should work fine with "KOTD" kernel and Xen 4.0 been installed from DVD during initial install.
I've also responded to yours Bugzilla record. Regarding yours complaints in bugzilla's thread I would suggest you to make a clean install with Xen package and afterwards install "kotd"
kernel to work under Hypervisor. Looks like you installed KVM first and got problems with tuning "virsh" to switch to Xen.

Do you mean "apt-get install linux-image-xen" on Ubuntu 8.04 HVM to load it as PV DomU ? Since Ubuntu 8.10 Server (9.X,10.04) i usually set up HVM via virt-install and it's ready to go as PV guest. View the sample in the most recent link submitted.
Boris.

I have two HVMs and one PV which I wish to get running in XEN 4.0 either on Ubuntu or Opensuse dom0 on the W510 laptop.

Thanks Boris, I
haven't attempted to rebuild
in suse... but have tried using XEN 4.0 (as comes with openSUSE11.3 and the kotd last week. I've updated my Novell bug report with the latest errors. Seems to be a 'new' problem and not seeing hotplugin error at least.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612006
"Unable to open connection to hypervisor URI"
Any thoughts? This is remarkably annoying. ;O) I also think xend isnt' starting well which may explain the above error from VManager.

Suse's build requirements for 4.0 src.rpm
zypper install LibVNCServer-devel SDL-devel acpica automake bin86 curl-devel dev86 \ graphviz latex2html libjpeg-devel libxml2-devel ncurses-devel openssl openssl-devel \ pciutils-devel python-devel texinfo transfig \ texlive texlive-latex \ glibc-32bit glibc-devel-32bit
4.0.1 should require + iasl, bison , flex The rest is to define packages names for iasl, bison, flex on Suse

I have opensuse 11.3 with kotd kernel now installed on my W510 laptop. I am trying to recompile the xen4-testing.hg source to try out 4.0.1rc5.
I've added the c/c++ patterns and dev86 packages. Then "make xen" works. Calling "make tools" bombs out in two places: a) can't find: stub-32.h header file at /usr/src/gnu/ b) can't find: /usr/include/bits/predef.h
Can anyone point me to a set of instructions for opensuse 11.3 build of XEN source? The XEN 4.0 source wiki instructions worked fine with Ubuntu. Not the case with opensuse. ;o(

Michael,
I will update bug also. I am not a Suse's expert, but Jan Beulich is out of office until 08/05/2010. Looks like kernel at page i mentioned bellow has Jan's patch already applied and works with udev 157 on 11.3. This page seems to be updated on daily basis. I just downloaded current xen-kernel. Installed Xen host from DVD and installed new kernel :-
# rpm -ivh
kernel-xen-2.6.34.1-0.0.17.fdda44d.x86_64.rpm
Grub entry
would be
created
automatically.
Reloaded system works
fine:-
1.
virt-install to
create PV or HVM DomU 2. virt-manager to manage PV or HVM DomU
I cannot issue any waranty until Jan will confirm , that kernel is OK with udev 157
Boris.

Hi Boris,
Does this thread address the problems I've seen in this bug-thread? That is:
hot-scripts
not working
issue?
How can we
(the end-users)
track where
or when this
may be
included in a kernel for opensuse 11.3?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612006
FWIW I added your latest comments to this bug in case.
Mike.

Boris. P.S Downgrade to 151 works for PV Guests (for me), but not for HVM.
