Are you trying to do a ParaVirtualized server? If so, I believe that Network
install is the only option. You can't use a local install method. To use the
local install method, you must create an HVM (Fully Virtualized) VM.

Is this possible? My end goal being to bring the converted guest into XCP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Hello,

this subject came up yesterday in ##xen@xxxxxxxxxxxx

In an Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) domU, using /dev/xvda in

------------- mavU.cfg ---------
disk = [ "phy:/dev/VG/mavU,xvda,w" ]

#
------ snip cfg ------

leads to
`rootfs not found` errors and the domU will not finish booting.

However, changing xvda->sda works, as long as its done in config, fstab, and perhaps in menu.lst/grub.cfg, unless blkid's are used.

What's really happening here?
---------------
Looking at /proc/devices, specifically block 202, reserved for Xen, you can see that maverick has `sd`, not `xvda`.

My question is, is this a bug or a feature?
It has come a handful of times in irc channel, but I've seen no discussion anywhere else.

Any ideas why suddenly Ubuntu did this? Lucid follows the tradition and uses xvda. Is this controlled in udev or kernel, or both?

Hi!

I want to load win7 in domU. After win7 installation master is loaded it
shows error: CD/DVD driver not found, please insert cd which contains it
driver. It can not find driver for QEMU DVD ROM (My computer doesn't have
VT-D for ioemu).

What should I do to fix this problem?

If you want to make the CDROM accessible in any form, just copy it to a
drive in another DomU that can access a harddisk then mount that drive
in your windows 7 DomU.

If you want to find out why this happens in the first place (it
shouldn't), then post your DomU config to the mailing list.

Two things:
- You're asking the question in the wrong forum.  Please use the
forum/support method provided by OpenXenCenter - I'm pretty sure this is
not the place.
- Second, OpenXenCenter does not appear to interface with the open
source versions of Xen - it looks like it is built to interface with the
Citrix XenServer, the commercial (but freely available) version of Xen.
It *may* work with XCP, but I'm not even sure about that.
