tap:aio should work regardless of what version your Xen is (well, for
Xen >=3 anyway).
If it doesn't work then something is wrong in your setup (some config
options not included maybe). It may be Debian-specific bug, in which
case you should file a bug report to Debian.

The whole mess about tap vs tap2 should only matter if you use
tap:tapdisk (like tap:tapdisk:aio)
