It looks like you are following the howto [1] without considering what
it is telling you.

do this:

cd /mnt
ls
mkdir xs-tools
mount /dev/xvdd /mnt/xs-tools/
dmesg | tail
ls xs-tools
cd /mnt/xs-tools/Linux/
bash install.sh
