This is normal in the case of (for example) virtual disk image (xen, virtualbox, SAN storage, whatever). Most OS installer can handle that. If your OS installer doesn't. then ask in their respective support/forum/list. If it can be installed in virtualbox/vmware/external SAN disk, then it can be installed in Xen. It's often is as simple as that.
