xen destroy and recreate (create) the domU should work in any case, but if you 
could shutdown your DomU OS properly into a integer/clean state depends from 
your OS behaviour. Usually your DomU OS should make shure that out of memory 
situations are handled as best as possible, but may be i misunderstand your 
question at all?...
