I'm using a ssd drive with EnhanceIO in writeback mode on the mdraid device 
underneath LVM.
Speeds up writes a lot for all LVM volumes on that raid device that the domU's 
use.

The nice thing of enhanceio is that you can apply it to just a generic block 
device.
I also looked at bcache but iirc you need to reformat your disk for that to 
work, which simply isn't an option for me on that machine.
