I thought Olaf (CCd) had sorted most of this stuff out.

Someone needs to identify the place which is still hardcoding /etc/...
and patch it to use the configure-d values.
Assuming Olaf doesn't have an outstanding patch for this somewhere (lets
see what he says) perhaps you could put together a patch?
