Re: [Publicity] Do you need the Captcha for commenting?

Amir,

I didn't configure the blog site, so I don't know all the history of
its current condition, but I know that the XenProject.org main site
and the wiki have both been hammered mercilessly by spam bots. I
recently enabled a captcha-ish plugin on the main site (it makes you
do simple math instead of typing in a couple words) because the bots
were hammering us mercilessly with hundreds of fake accounts with
hyperlinks to various shopping sites. And the moment it gets turned
off, the deluge of fake accounts returns.

So, yes, I suspect the same happened to the blog. Maybe we can find
something that is more user-friendly than captcha (for the record, I
loathe captcha too), but we need something that will help us keep the
bots at bay. I'll check to see if there is a potentially better blog
plugin available.

And, yes, we do not have single system sign-on between the main site,
the blog, and the wiki... yet. We hope to make strides in that area
this year.

Truly sorry for the inconvenience. Once again, a few rotten spammers
have given unnecessary pain to reasonable people.
