[Publicity] FYI regarding OpenStack Survey

Hi all,

OpenStack published a new survey that eWeek covered in below article and slide show. Worth calling out is slide 4, which shows hypervisor results and includes container technology.Â

Thanks,

KVM Is the Leading OpenStack Hypervisor

The OpenStack Nova compute project can leverage any number of different virtualization technologies. The most widely deployed is KVM, at 87 percent of production deployments. In contrast, VMware's ESX hypervisor represents 6 percent of production OpenStack deployments.

Eight Important Facts About the OpenStack Cloud Platform

By Sean M. Kerner Â| ÂPosted 2014-11-25 Â

Â
The open-source OpenStack cloud platform serves multiple market segments and has users with different deployment models. The most popular deployment type for OpenStack is as an on-premises private cloud, according the recent OpenStack user survey, which is based on 669 responses from cloud operators and users. The OpenStack platform provides a framework that enables multiple underlying technology options for compute, storage and networking capabilities. The study also found that the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) open-source technology is the most widely deployed virtualization hypervisor. There are also multiple tools that operators and users can choose to deploy an OpenStack cloud. The most popular deployment tool is Puppet, which was used by 45 percent of those who have deployed OpenStack into production, according to the study, which was released at the recent OpenStack Summit in Paris. A key theme that emerged during the summit was the fact that organizations will use the platform alongside other cloud platforms, including Amazon. In fact, the study showed that 31 percent of respondents indicated they also use Amazon. eWEEK examines key survey findings.
