== Status Update ==
Ian: new system went live about 10 days ago
Ian: 10 of the 24 x86 boxes are live and in production
Ian: All of the ARM nodes are working
Ian: Reliability better than the old system
Ian: Performance / capacity slightly better
Ian: Meanwhile the filer of the old system died, so having gone live overall is positive
Ian: Of the remainder 6 machines are affected by Linux driver bugs (4 network card, 2 for storage controller) â Ian is chasing this up with Linux maintainers
Ian: One pair of machines is affected by BIOS compatibility issues
Ian: Remaining 6 machines have problems with AllNet
Lars: Prognosis
Ian: Driver bugs will take some weeks to resolve as it will require patches to Linux (will have to wait for these to get into Linux stable trees)
Ian: ACPI BIOS â some more testing, but this will probably be put into service in 64 bit mode only
Ian: 6 machines awaiting AllNet â 2 may work soon
Ian: the others are less clear â based on past performance, but may take time
Lars: questions
Ian: Thanks to AMD with the two machines. Not yet live, because power supplies in both machines blew up Monday night. This type of thing happens a lot, which is concerning. Hoping that AllNet will sort this out.
== Microsoft Licenses ==
Lars: Our set-up doesnât seem to be straightforward
Ian: at the moment we are covered by Citrix MSDN licenses. Until this is resolved, we cannot give anyone access who does not have an MSDN license.
Lars: anyone any experience?
Don: talked to official licensing people and they couldnât give any good advice.
*Agree that testing on MS is important*
*For now, we restricted access. In the longer term we need to find a solution.*
Ian: not sure whether a web interface where test jobs can be submitted. Have to restrict for capacity and security issuers, but want to give access for
*ACTION Lars: to chase up Linux Foundation/Microsoft on licensing*
Ian: can compute number of sockets and CPUs if needed. Can even limit the numbers if the total number of licenses is too expensive.
== AOB ==
Don: need to talk at some point at COLO extension
Ian: we are still dealing with the existing machines â does not want to deal with any new HW until then
