That sounds a little odd. I can see my PV system disk in task manager running 
on a Windows redstone 2 VM. I'm running the 9.0 driver but I don't think 
anything has massively changed since 8.2.

That may be true. There have been some adjustments in that area. It's also 
dependent upon what features your backend advertises. For instance I'm using a 
QEMU qdisk backend and, with that, the 9.0 frontend tells me caching is enabled.

Probably best to try the 9.0 driver. It's likely there will be an 8.2.1 release 
of at least some of the drivers and it would be good to know if there are some 
more patches that really need to be back-ported from 9.0.
