On Sun, 13 Feb 2005, I wrote (in pseudocode):
> if (TS == 0 && fpu_stack_size > 0) panic ("Corrupt FPU");
And replacing the panic with stts() in my patch fixes the problem 
completely - and all the display corruption, which must have been
a symptom. :-)

This is only a workaround, though - I'm not sure what the 
underlying problem is.
