The domUloader.py program documents itself best.

Just omit kernel and ramdisk from a domU config file, and put
bootentry = [dev:]kernel[,initrd]
bootloader = /path/to/domUloader.py
in it :-)

Works both with and without dev:, and is tested including the
reboot case.
