Generally speaking, the UUID is used to be able to uniquely identify a
host for management (and other types) of apps.  So yes, this is
basically the extension of the SMBIOS side to paravirt guests.  

And I had entertained the thought of throwing together the patch to make
the UUID more generically available, I just haven't really had time to
try to track gregkh down and talk him into it
