Indeed, I'm using dom0 only at the moment. I didn't even create any domU 
since I wasn't sure if I will be able to use to on my notebook when there 
are kernel panics.

For now, I was using the ~x86-gentoo-builds. This is xen-3.0.2 with 
xen-sources-2.6.16.18 (a gentoo-specific kernel, patched with xen). I just 
downloaded the testing-tgz from the xen-website and tinkered around with the 
setup. Using your testing (xen-3.0.2.3 and xen-sources-2.6.16.13) I can now 
access the cdrom. Hopefully this will find its way into portage soon :-)
