Re: [Xen-devel] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0, 0)

You will need ext3 support compiled into vmlinuz-2.6-xen kernel. I suspect it's compiled as a module. Make sure that your kernel configuration file says:
CONFIG_EXT3_FS=y
recompile, copy the kernel and try again. Does it help?

Hi,

While booting the Xen 3.0.3 installation I get a kernel Panic

VFS: Cannot open root device "hde1" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)

I tried to install with the binaries and I also tried to compile the
sources. But always the same failure!

My menu.lst from Grub:

Not working Xen Boot:
title Xen 3.0 / XenLinux 2.6
kernel /boot/xen-3.0.gz
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6-xen root=/dev/hde1 ro console=tty0

Working Debian Boot:
title Debian ....
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.27-2-386 root=/dev/hde1 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.4.27-2-386
savedefault
boot

mount command tells me:
/dev/hde1 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
...so the root=/dev/hde1 must be correct, I think!

Anyone an idea?

Thx for Help!

Wolf
