Thanks for quick reply. I tried as follows
perfc=y make : which builds xen and installs it in dist directory sh ./install.sh : which installs xen in /boot
But still I am getting same error. Any idea where I am wrong?

Performance counters are not built into Xen by default. You need to build Xen with 'perfc=y make'.

I want to use software counters available via "xenperf". However I get this error
"Error getting number of perf counters: 38 (Function not implemented)". Am I missing something? Some configuration or option which needs to be turned on before I can use these counters. Any help would be much appreciated.
I am using Xen 3.1.0 x86_64
