Jeremy Fitzhardinge wrote: the boot log with "iommu=verbose" looks fine. when you mistyped "verbose", it equals to default iommu setting, that's iommu=1.On 04/06/2010 07:50 PM, Weidong Han wrote:It turns out its... "Enable debug=y by default in the build." So I guess these errors have been happening silently thus far? JI don't encounter this issue. These DMAR fault messages will be printed even when debug=n. what platform are you using? could you post complete booting log with "iommu=verbose"?This is a Supermicro X8SIL-F system, which is a Lynnfield + Ibex Peak system. I've attached two boot logs below. The first is one where there lots of DMAR errors early, and the system is a disaster (basically doesn't come up, lots of devices fail to init). Unfortunately it looks like I mistyped "verbose". The second boot was immediately after the first and it comes up cleanly with no DMAR errors at all. So it appears there's some non-determinism there. The gmfns in the messages always appear to be about he same, so I wonder if it depends on exactly what pages the kernel ends up allocating for IO? (It probably also means my bisection results are suspect.) Can I understand that: the DMAR faults only occur when "debug=y" with default iommu setting (iommu=1)? Besides print more info, "iommu=verbose" also invokes process_pending_softirqs in domain_context_mapping. Could you try below patch to also call process_pending_softirqs for "iommu=1"? diff -r 28e5409e3fb3 xen/drivers/passthrough/vtd/iommu.c--- a/xen/drivers/passthrough/vtd/iommu.c Wed Apr 07 16:22:05 2010 +0100 +++ b/xen/drivers/passthrough/vtd/iommu.c Thu Apr 08 10:18:15 2010 +0800 @@ -1366,7 +1366,7 @@ static int domain_context_mapping(struct break; } - if ( iommu_verbose ) +// if ( iommu_verbose ) process_pending_softirqs(); return ret; (BTW, what's a "type 9" E820 region?)
