Do you have 'sg' loaded ("lsmod | grep sg" to check).

I'm sure it used to work better, but the only way I can get it working
at the moment is by specifying the sg device directly, which
unfortunately can change between reboots, eg:

xm scsi-attach sles11 /dev/sg0 0:0:0:1
