I don't think 2.6.31 is the default in any current Xen tree, is it? 

xen/master in xen.git still points to a 2.6.31 based tree but that's
rather misleading. That branch hasn't been updated since July.

The currently maintained stable branch is xen/stable-2.6.32.x which is
used by both xen-4.0-testing.hg and xen-unstable.hg
