Yes, unfortunately is true; the problem is the pthread based aio
implementation in qemu-xen (I guess with "upstream qemu" you mean the
qemu that comes with xen-unstable).
To have decent performances we need the new qemu (what we usually refer
as "upstream qemu" around here), but it is not ready yet.
Our target for this is the xen 4.2 release.
