Does your build have -Wall? The xen.spec I use has this before the make
call:

export 'CFLAGS=-fmessage-length=0 -O2 -Wall -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 
-fstack-protector -funwind-tables -fasynchronous-unwind-tables'
